How to Survive a Riot

This article is primarily for U.S. citizens working and traveling abroad, particularly those representing the United States government. But, as demonstrated by the New York Draft Riots (1863) (as depicted in the Martin Scorcese film, Gangs of New York), by the Watts Riot (1965), by riots in Washington D.C., Baltimore, MD, and Chicago, IL, following the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. (1968), by the 1968 Democratic National Convention Riots, by the Los Angeles Riot of 1992, and most recently, by the Toledo Riot (2005), they have happened here throughout our history.

Here are a few survival tips for the riot conscious.

Web Mail Threats

More and more Internet users can conveniently access their e-mail through web-based e-mail accounts. A web-based e-mail account can be accessed through any web browser at any location, including the office. However, an array of potential threats can arise in the workplace when using a web-based e-mail account, including a decrease in productivity, an increase in virus attacks and the potential of divulging proprietary company information. These threats are now forcing companies to reevaluate their current web mail policies or lack thereof.
